WHAT IS WORSHIP?
WORSHIP is my response to who God is and what He has done and what he is worth in my life.
Worship means TO DECLARE WORTH
“… Because of God’s great mercy to us… Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.” Romans 12:1 (GNT; TEV)
WORSHIP is my _____________ to who God is and what He has done and what he is worth in my life.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” Mark 12:30
Three things God does not have unless I give them to Him…
1. He doesn’t have my attention unless I give it to him. That’s loving God with your mind.
2. He doesn’t have my affection, unless I give it to him. That’s loving God with your heart and your soul.
3. And God doesn’t have your ability, unless I give it to him. That’s loving God with your strength.
HOW DO I LIVE A LIFE OF WORSHIP?
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” John 4:23 (NIV)
“Let us be grateful and worship God in a way that will please him.” Hebrews 12:28
THE KIND OF WORSHIP THAT PLEASES GOD
1. GOD IS PLEASED WHEN OUR WORSHIP IS ACCURATE
“… True worshipers will worship the Father in the spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” John 4:23 (NIV)
God-pleasing worship is deeply emotional and deeply doctrinal.
2. GOD IS PLEASED WHEN OUR WORSHIP IS AUTHENTIC
“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:17
The best style of worship is the one that most authentically represents your love for God, based on the background and personality God gave you.
3. GOD IS PLEASED WHEN OUR WORSHIP IS THOUGHTFUL
“love God with all your mind…” Mark 12:30
Jesus called thoughtless worship “vain repetitions.” Matthew 6:7
4. GOD IS PLEASED WHEN OUR WORSHIP IS PRACTICAL
“Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1a
REAL WORSHIP COSTS
“… I will not offer to the LORD my God sacrifices that have cost me nothing.” 2 Samuel 24:24
“Love God with all your strength…” Mark 12:30
