How You Can Change Your Story

HOW YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR STORY

Changing the Story of our Life

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”   2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

While challenges, failures, and pain are inevitable, they don’t have to define us.

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR CURRENT STORY.

“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.”   Proverbs 28:13 (TLB)

IDENTIFY YOUR LIMITING BELIEFS.

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”   2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

“I’m not good enough.”                       “I will never change.”

“I don’t know what to do”                   “I must be perfect.”

“I don’t have enough resources.”     “It’s too late for me.”

“I’ll never be happy.”                          “I must do it all by myself.”

“I’m not talented or capable as others.”

“I don’t have enough resources.”

RENEW AND REFRAME YOUR MIND.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”   Romans 12:2 (NLT)

EMBRACE YOUR NEW IDENTITY IN CHRIST.

“… Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.”   Colossians 3:5 (NLT)

“… You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other…”  Colossians 3:7-9 (NLT)

Your New Identity in Christ

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive other.”   Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT)

“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.”   Colossians 3:10 (NLT)

*Colossians 3:1-17 (NLT)

EMBRACE FLEXIBILITY AND GROWTH.

“… when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1:2-4 (NLT)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”   Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

CHOOSE FORGIVENESS.

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”   Romans 12:19 (NIV)

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”  Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

TAKE ACTION TODAY.

“… As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.”  James 2:26 (NIV)

“Do whatever you can today because tomorrow is promised to no one.”  B. Franklin
