When You Have Lost Your Grip On Life

When You’ve Lost Your Grip on Life: Finding God’s Strength When You’ve Reached the End of Yours

Getting a Grip on Life

Life Will Break — But You Don’t Have to Stay Broken

JESUS: “… In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)

  • Jesus never promised a storm-free life, but He promised His presence in it.
  • Brokenness isn’t the end—it’s where God’s healing begins.

When You Can’t Hold It Together, God Still Holds You

GOD:So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

  • You don’t have to grip everything—just hold onto the One who holds you.

Grace Doesn’t Always Deliver You FROM the Pain, But THROUGH It!

GOD: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

GOD: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”
   Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)

  • Sometimes the miracle is not escape—but endurance.

God Uses Broken Pieces to Make Something New

PAUL:God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”  Romans 8:28

  • He doesn’t waste pain—He transforms it.

How to Get a Grip When Life Falls Apart

1. Acknowledge What’s Falling Apart!

Be honest with yourself and with God.

“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.”  Proverbs 28:13 (TLB)

2. Let Go of What You Can’t Control.

Surrender the outcome to God.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)

3. Cling to God’s Promises, Not Your Performance

His grace is enough for today.

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”   Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

4. Let Others Carry You.

Don’t isolate. Let your faith community support you.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

Reflect:

What if your current breakdown is the setup for God’s breakthrough?

Connect with God:

Lord, I release what I can’t control and receive Your grace to walk through what I don’t understand. Be my strength. Be my peace. Be my anchor. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
