“Halftime Adjustment: Turning Setbacks into Comebacks”
Father’s Day @ People’s Church 2025
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand.” Psalm 37:23–24 (NKJV)
SETBACKS DO NOT DEFINE YOU — GOD DOES.
“For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again.” Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV)
THE MIDGAME CALLING REQUIRES A HEART SHIFT.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 (KJV)
YOUR COMEBACK IS A LEGACY IN THE MAKING.
“… I will restore to you the years that the… locust has eaten…” Joel 2:25 (NKJV)
TURNING SETBACKS INTO COMEBACKS
I. EMBRACE THE HALFTIME CALL: RECEIVE GOD’S GRACE NOW.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…” Isaiah 1:18 (NIV)
“… But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.” Romans 5:20 (NKJV)
Application:
- Don’t wait for “perfect timing.” God’s grace meets you where you are.
- Confess honestly, receive forgiveness, and make peace with your past mistakes.
- Let this be your moment to reset and say, “God, I am ready for my comeback.”
II. TAKE INTENTIONAL STEPS: SMALL MOVES LEAD TO BIG CHANGES.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…” Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
Application:
- Identify one small step you can take this week to reconnect with your family.
- Consistency beats intensity—show up regularly, even when it feels hard.
- Pray daily for your family, asking God to guide your words and actions.
III. LEAN ON GOD’S STRENGTH: TRUST HIM WITH THE OUTCOME.
“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles…” Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
“… My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness….” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV; NIV)
Application:
- Surrender your fears and doubts to God.
- Trust that God is working, even when you don’t see immediate results.
- Keep your eyes on the ultimate goal—restoration and love, not perfection.
